It had been having a problem with the speaker jack -- there was a lot of static, probably coming from a loose connection somewhere -- but in a few minutes, I'm going to change up cards, and that should resolve the problem. Now if only I could get rid of the small bright-green flash at the center of the monitor screen every time I shut off power to the monitor ... I think I will begin the final push toward reinstatement on Monday. I'd start tomorrow, except that I'm working an 8-hour shift; and of course, I can't do a damn thing on Saturday or Sunday. Oh well, in any case my chances look pretty good.
