Pilot Mountain

This is Pilot Mountain, located in Surry County, North Carolina just off the U.S. 52 freeway. Pilot Mountain is renowned for the interesting rock outcropping at the top; the shape is reminiscent of the U.S. Capitol building’s famous domed roof.
Thanks to site visitor Aleta Marshall, from the nearby town of the same name as the mountain, for e-mailing me a correction. I had formerly identified the mountain as being in Stokes County, immediately to the east of Surry County. I think I may have been confused because the mountain sits very close to that county line, and I know I took the picture from a few miles away to the southeast — almost certainly from within Stokes.
