Back to 65 MPH

Back to 65 MPH
Just after the New Stanton interchange, where Interstate 70 breaks off to head to Wheeling, WV, the Turnpike speed limit increases from 55 mph to 65 mph. Slightly more in the foreground than the speed limit sign is one of the one-tenth mile markers used along the entire length of the Turnpike; this one is 74.9 miles from the Ohio state line.

(NOTE: The background information for this picture is now out of date. In 2005, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission eliminated the 55 mph zone between the Allegheny Mountain Tunnel and the New Stanton interchange; the speed limit there is now 65 mph. This sign still stands, but it no longer marks the beginning of a 65 mph zone — it merely indicates a continuation of the Turnpike’s 65 mph speed limit.)
