Interstate 27

Interstate 27

Total length: 124 miles (200 km)
Southern terminus: Lubbock, TX, at 82nd St.
Northern terminus: Amarillo, TX, at JCT I-40

States traversed & length in each:

  • Texas — 124 miles (200 km)

Major cities along route:

  • Lubbock, TX
  • Amarillo, TX

Junctions with non-related Interstates:

Related loops and spurs:

    NONE

Length I’ve traveled: From Exit 51 (Quincy St./Plainview) to Exit 123 (I-40)

Time zones:
Central — Entire length

Counties traversed:
Texas — Lubbock, Hale, Swisher, Randall, Potter

A quick hypertext drive: I-27 connects the Texas Panhandle cities of Lubbock and Amarillo, providing Lubbock’s only connection to the rest of the Interstate system. The entire rural length is flat and doesn’t curve much; the section south of I-40 in Amarillo is a “depressed” freeway (i.e., it is below grade). Other than a few seedier sections of Amarillo, and fields as far as the eye can see, there isn’t much to look at.
